Automobiles

The moment I spotted a Plymouth Belvedere parked in a lot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean during a trip to Nova Scotia, I knew I had to paint the cars portrait. A decade later, I finally did, sparking a painting series of vintage automobiles. As a child in the 1970's the cars everyone drove were classics. Most people were driving sedans from the 1950's and 1960's. The antique automobiles were usually pre-'55, but were still seen regularly. My 1980's youth was often spent in cars from the 1970's. During my teenage years, everyone had an old car. Some were muscle cars, others economy. The kids in shop would buy a beat up old Chevy Nova, or Ford Galaxie 500 for a few hundred dollars and fix them up at school for credit. I should have taken shop, but still loved seeing those bad ass cars around the parking lot. They were the backdrop to everything from a trip into town, or bush party in the deep B.C wood.
